I shut down the computer (Dell) and restarted it. When I got to the front page where I enter my name and password, the keyboard and mouse would not function. Its as if communication from the mouse/keyboard has been severed. I know the batteries for both the keyboard and mouse are fine.
Anyone have an experience with this sort of problem before?? I had received an invitation to add someone from Yahoo Messenger just prior to my mouse cursor freezing, and no ability to use my keyboard. I hope this wasn't a virus...
Any ideas?
Thanks for any help anyone can give.
SeanComputer problem... Virus? Other problem but I need advice...?
weird did you accept the invite if so maybe they got into your computer. i would advise going offline and do a scan, and delete that personComputer problem... Virus? Other problem but I need advice...?
i advise u to instal an antivirus software and scan you computer, if you don`t find an virus and the problem persists then you should reinstal them
Wish I could help...it is infuriating when computers do strange things out of nowhere.....all I can suggest is calling Dell, if you still have any support with them....if not, call a computer tech (geek)
video is very demanding on computer resources.
if you lacking ram, or your processor is underpowered, then hardware will freeze.
you may need a more powerfull computer.
RAM and Virtual Memory check XP
========================
Open up the internet to eg yahoo answers and have a few things open .(eg Word excel or a couple browser pages)
If you normally play music, play that. Close down anything else just for this test.
Open Task manager %26gt;performance tab
Look at the RAM usage in the physical memory (k). If you are using more than 60% of your RAM while your computer is only doing the above then there is not much left for video or games. You may need to install more RAM
1 Gig for XP, 2 Gig for Vista
Look at the PF usage. That is the virtual memory . Your virtual memory minimum setting should be more than what is being used at this moment.
Your virtual memory should be set to 1.5 times the amount of RAM you have. Eg 1 gig RAM, therefore 1.5 gig Virtual Memory
Right click my computer icon %26gt;properties %26gt; advance tab %26gt;performance settings %26gt; advance tab %26gt; virtual memory change %26gt; select the drive with the operating system on it (normally C:) bullet custom. Enter the min and max value as one and a half times the RAM you have. In this example, if Ram is 1 gig then choose 500 min and 1500 max. %26gt;set
Your computer is now set for optimum performance for the RAM you have.
probably a virus. What happens is, the virus uninstalls your mouse, and other devices. Things like the mouse and your key board come as installed programs on your Dell hardware. If they are uninstalled you can't use them obviously. Luckily there is this magical little button onside your computer. On the plus side if you press it, your computer will be like brand new, and will function properly. On the negative side you will lose all saved programs and photos. But you do need a Dell person to assist you. The magic button is in a different place on all computers! Call a dell person!! If you're still under warranty, they will help you for free! :) good luck!
