Okay, I have 3 children. Age 3, 6 and 8. The older 2 are girls and have long hair. The younger is a boy, with failry long hair (for a boy)
For almost 2 years I have been battling with headlice..When I noticed them on my older daughter I treated her hair and they seemed to be gone...but a month later I noticed she had them again..i treated her (and the family) and the cycle continues...
i have seen the doctor who actually wouldnt see her and sent me to the nurse for this, and she just gave us a different treatment- we have been using fullmarks. it seems to kill them -i have got out 100 lice before- but they always come back quickly..
interstingly i have never had them; i have long hair, but i dry and straighten it daily- might this be why i dont get them?
i am well aware lice cant live off the head or on pets, and it isnt really necessary to treat the house other thsan washing the bedding at suitable heat..
i am told oils and mayonnaise are not said to be of any help except where they lice are immune to the pesticides- as these lice DIE i dont think changing the product works...they just keep coming back! I see no point in cutting my girls hair short as my son has hair shorter than i can imagine any girls hair being and he now gets them too...its costing a fortune- its 拢10 per treatment!(for all of us) and i have dozens of combs..
any advice?thanksHealice problem for YEARS any advice?
Use a treatment on all kids (for the last time) then get eucalyptus/tea tree oil spray. Put it in their hair everyday, brush through, then send them off to school. [It makes the lice go 'yuck! i dont want to go on that head!' ha ha] If the problem keeps coming back, let the school know that somebody has a issue!
good luck.Healice problem for YEARS any advice?
You have to clean the bedding and furniture. Wash all the clothes. Wrap the stuffed animals in a garbage bag for a week. If they have any canopys wrap them too. Try green tree oil. It stinks but it keeps them away. I used RID and ended up with them again but my dr gave me soem prescription thing and that got them away.
the only thing to do is be vigilante it was in my family for years, after theyve gone comb every nite and everytime they come out of the bath. when me and my sisters started blowdrying and straightening the did go away!!! also tell your kids to try and keep their heads away from others!!!
Use a preventative measure. At your local drug store or Wal-Mart, you can find something called Tea Tree Oil. Just put some of this in your shampoo bottle and wash their hair as normal. The stuff stinks, but it really does work to prevent lice.
baby oil around the neck
The oil and mayo treatments do work, but you have to be consistent. Use the lice treatment, follow its directions, comb diligently then add the oil or mayo liberally from roots to tips wrap in a shower cap to keep everything in and off of everything else. In morning wash before going to school. When they get home reapply whichever condiment you used the night before. Keep it up for about two weeks. In the mean time the house cleaning routine needs to be stepped up. Try the tea tree oil suggestion as well. I couldn't hurt and it may work well with the other measures you are taking. Good Luck.
Are you only treating them once. After treating their hair once you would have to do it again 7 days later. I would get the kids hair cut short after be treated and gone so they wouldn't be coming back. You have to treat everything in your house. You got to watch pillow sheets and pillow sheets in hot water everyday. Got to vacuum the house everyday. The curtains couch and chairs has well. I used an iron and used it pillows and bed mattress since they don't like hot.
The lice can and do live off the head for some period of time, so you need to treat EVERYTHING. This includes stuffed animals. Throw the stuffies in a hot dryer for a bit, and that should do the trick there. Vacuum the mattress and curtains. Wash all the clothes in hot hot water.
If you vacuum every day, and do the bedding in the washer/dryer at least once a week, within a month you will probably have irradidated the problem.
Lice live in clean hair as well as dirty hair, but having the kids really scrub up their heads every night before bed will help. The should never go to bed without a bath/shower to make sure they're not reinfesting themselves.
Also, all caps, hats, scarves and jackets should be cleaned regularly.
Tell the kids not to share any clothes with other kids. I can't imagine their friends don't also have the lice problem, and it may be from the friends that they keep bringing them back home.
Don't cut the kids hair. It makes it easier to treat the lice, but it will not get rid of them, so what's the use of having the girls traumatized.
Head lice is a nightmare! When my sister and I were younger, we got it and it took more than two years to finally get rid of it. Are you coming the eggs out of your childrens' hair with the special comb? That is absolutely critical. If you aren't combing out the eggs, they will hatch and your children will be reinfested again.
After we got new carpets and new matresses, that seems to be when we finally got rid of it for good. I really hope you don't have to do that though. Although the lice cannot live very long if they aren't in hair, be sure to vaccuum everything frequently.
And I'm not sure how accurate this is, but I overheard a woman saying that tea tree oil can get rid of it and actually repel it. Again, I'm not sure how accurate this is.
Good luck.
