Can someone give me some advice about a technical problem i am experiencing with Sims 2?

On christmas i recieved Sims 2 double deluxe which contains the Sims game, sims 2 nightlife expansionpack and Sims 2 celebration stuff pack all rolled into one disk. I installed as usual and then loaded up the Pleasantview neighbourhood to commence playing. I tried to create a family. It froze once i had clicked on the tick saying 'accept family' forcing me to close the game using task manager. I am able, though, to play with the already created families in Pleasantview without any problems at all. However when i attempt to go into any of the other neighbourhoods it freezes. Thinking that it was a bad disk we took it back to the shop and replaced it with a new one. Exactly the same problems happened with this disk so i know that it is not the disk but my computer.

According to my command prompt our DirectX version is version 10. I play the game muted so the sound card is not a problem and we have attempted to install a more updated video card but im not sure if it worked or not. Our RAM and everything else meets up to the specification described on the box as far as we can tell.I have Vista.

Can anyone give me any suggestions and help as to why these problems occur. Thanks. Can someone give me some advice about a technical problem i am experiencing with Sims 2?
Game freezes at the create a family screen are nearly always related to unsupported graphics cards. To play the Sims 2 on Vista you need to have one of the following cards installed according to the official site:

ATI Radeon 9800 and above. (9800, X550, X600, X700, X800, X850, X1600, X1800, X1900, X1950)

NVidia 6000 series and above. (6600, 7300, 7600, 7800, 7900, 7950, 8800)

You really need one of the above cards, and to have a competent person install it for you.Can someone give me some advice about a technical problem i am experiencing with Sims 2?
Make sure your system is completely up to date, get rid of as many start up programs as possible, and if you still have issues try installing it after disabling your anti virus and anti spy ware... of course enable it aftawards...
Do you have 32 or 64 bit OS?

Sometimes 64 bit crashes programs made for 32 bit
Ok, there could be problems with your computer such as,

-You have too much stored in your computer (music, videos, sites, images, pictures, games, etc...)

-Or, you could also be experiencing viruses (CDT, etc...)

Try this:

Clear out your computer (Take out installed programs you will not use or is not using such as, other games and stuff...)

Then, Re- Install the Sims 2. But only one packet.

I hope this works.

If none of these work, help troubleshooting your computer in a mechanical store or other places you might know.

Otherwise, good luck!

And a Happy New Year!
