My father-in -law and I replaced my drain field about 10 years ago and it is already acting up again. I had the tank pumped and it lasted for about a month and a half. My toilet is gurgling, my shower gets standing water after a 10 minute shower. I'm wanting to know if there are other options out there than replacing my drain field. I've read of pits you can attach to a good drain line. I'm just wondering if that really works. I can't afford to have a pro do this so I will be doing the drain field myself if it comes to that. Thanks for your help. Can you give me some advice on my septic problem?
You should use a septic tank cleaner every month. It has active yeast in it and keeps the septic tank working properly. The kind I used was a powder packet but the name escapes me at the moment.Just ask at any hardware store.
Use only toilet tissue made for septic tanks or cheap one ply paper. That's what I was advised to do after getting my tank cleaned.Never let kleenex, diapers etc. get put down the toilet.(Yes diapers......the plumber told me this happens.)
I had a mobile home and this worked for me for years.Just had to remind the children and grandkids when they came to visit. Can you give me some advice on my septic problem?
your drain pipe could be the problem. kleenex tissue and the like are killers in pipes and fields. use toilet paper specially made for septic systems. does your kitchen sink also drain into it, if so do you have a grease trap?
We also have a septic and we use Rid X every so often. The worst things on septic pipes are tampons as the swell in the pipe causing problems.
what you could also do is put some septic drain cleaner in your toilet,to help clean out the tank.can buy at local Lowe's or home depot stores, can ask sales person where they keep it....
