I have a problem managing money, any advice? POSITIVE advice?

I have a problem as well. I was talking to the manager at my bank and she gave me a great idea that works. She said open three accounts, one for bills, one for savings and one for spending money. If you can't afford to save, just open the two (bill account and spending account). This way you don't over draw and you know that you can't dip into your bill account or your bills won't get paid. Pay them right away through your banks bill pay, this way, the money is out of your account right away. Try it, it helped me big time.I have a problem managing money, any advice? POSITIVE advice?
I have the same advice the other poster got from her bank manager............open up two or three different accounts and designate them for something. one checking for bills and one checking for spending money, and if you can open one savings account for savings. If you have direct deposit where you work, use that to your advantage as well. Figure out much money from each paycheck needs to go towards bills, and have that amount directly deposited into your bills account. The rest is pretty easy, have your spending money account designated as ';balance'; so that whatever is left after paying bills goes into your spending money.

Once you set that up, just make sure you only use your bills account for paying bills. It will really help.I have a problem managing money, any advice? POSITIVE advice?
It's simple. Live frugally! There is a difference between being cheap and being frugal. Cheapness is about scarcity and frugality is about abundance. I'd bet there are tons of ways you could cut your expenses without diminishing your enjoyment of life. Learn to cook. Brown bag lunches are a lot cheaper than eating out and it's actually fun and satisfying to prepare your own food. If you've got a car payment make it your last one. Nobody NEEDS a new car. There are plenty of used ones for 5 grand out there with plenty of life left in them. Not only is it a lot cheaper there is a lot to be said for not worrying about every little ding and scratch. You can get a lot of items used on craigslist, ebay, garage sales and thrift shops. Get into the habit of saving 10 percent of whatever you make. Live frugally on the rest. You can get extra jobs for a while to blow on something special or to boost savings. One of the best pieces of advice I've ever gotten was ';you can't have it all.'; Very true. Prioritize. Remember this too, there is no end. You'll NEVER feel like you've got enough. They'll ALWAYS be something you can't do no matter how much you have. And forget the Jones'. Don't bother trying to keep up. Almost everyone with tons of fancy stuff is also in debt. Not worth it. Happiness comes from within, not from anything matereal. Any improvement is good. So just take a few steps and watch things improve! Luck to you.

I suggest you read The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. I have read several financial books and Ramsey's book is the easiest and most user friendly book I have ever read. He uses layman terms to explain complex financial information.

I have read a book by Suze Orman and I find her very difficult to read and not a great book to start a budget and get it working. Her books seem better when you are ready to invest and write a will or trust. She is very technical.
These are great resources, get down to your local library tonight and start checking out personal finance books - they can be wonderfully empowering and inspiring, and most are written in simple, easy-to-understand terms.

-The Complete Idiot's Guide to Personal Finance in your 20s and 30s

-The Complete Idiot's Guide to Managing Your Money

-Smart Women Finish Rich, by David Bach

Hire someone to manage your money for you and to teach you what you need to know. To start they can give you an ';allowance'; to spend.

You might be able to get help from a local not-for-profit agency in your area. Where I live they have free money management classes.
well you must work and pay bills, if you don't have much money at the end. you have prioritize you bills. make sure you pay them on time and don't run up the bills. try not to use your debit card, if you have or use it. try not to use your credit card.

don't buy things just to buy something or have it. think to yourself. do i need it or want it? need and want are two different things. need is when you cant live without it, like food, clothes, a place to live : )

want is something else. you may want something, like a new blouse or new pair of shoes, but do you really need it? are the clothes you have dirty and have holes in them, that you cant wear them? am i just buying it because its the latest fashion? questions like that.

look at prices when your buying food. brand names are nothing. go with the store brand names. they are the same thing.

put away a percentage of money from your paycheck and don't touch it.

Remember want and need.
